Meet the Maker: Ruth Walker of FAWE Collection

scurry home fawe collection interview

Serendipitous seating arrangements.  Aren’t they great?

Especially at a wedding where you don’t know many people.  There you are just hoping that the next two hours will be endurable and you’ll be by someone relatively normal.

Rarely do you expect to strike up easy conversation, share similar tastes in jewelry and design, and be able to lament together over the difficulty of starting your own business.

Last year I was seated by the sweet and wildly talented Ruth Walker.  I didn’t know who she was until we had be talking for quite some time.  Turns out I had been drooling over her jewelry on Instagram for months.

Her jewelry.  Let me tell you.  Her designs draw you in, cause you to take notice.  Proof minimalism done right will not be called boring.

Your jewelry is truly unique and doesn’t seem to follow trends but at the same time feels so on point. What inspires your designs?

Thank you. I created FAWE Collection with the intention to create elegant jewelry that represents nature in a simplistic way. Each design is drawn from the wild beauty of our natural environment. I love the outdoors, and find inspiration everywhere I go. I strive to design timeless pieces that will last forever, not to follow the latest trends.

What is your favourite piece you’ve created and what made it special?

My favourite piece of jewellery is the delicate9ct gold Swell earring from Collection 001. I created the Swell as I struggled to find a minimal pair of solid gold earrings that were subtle and sophisticated. The design was inspired by the rolling swells at Portsalon Beach, Co. Donegal,a special place to me. These earrings are easy to wear, hooking through the ear and holding alone. The Swell are designed to be worn either together or with other earrings, for day to day or occasion wear. So simple yet so effective.

What or who drew you to jewelry design?

From a young age, I have always been inspired by my father’s handiwork and his overflowing toolbox. I started to practice making rings from scrap copper, with him teaching me how to use tools properly. Making jewellery just came naturally to me. I must have his handy genes!

So, do tell – what is your favourite in Scurry Home & Paper right now?

Oh, this box set is my favourite.  [Huge shocker she chose the nature-inspired Rifle Paper Co. Botanical Set!]
